Growing up a "PK" (Pastor's Kid), Pastor Mark Eugene Perry has loved his life-long relationship with Christ through the Lutheran Christian church. Born in Alameda and raised in southern and central California before moving to Phoenix, Arizona before his sophomore year in High School, there he met his future wife, Linda. They were married in 1982 and now have three adult daughters and two twin granddaughters. He received a B.A. in History from Arizona State University, and his Master of Divinity degree from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. He served his Internship at United Lutheran Church and Eugene Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Eugene, Oregon. Mark was ordained in 1986. He served parishes in Sylmar, CA, Mesa, Phoenix, and Tucson, AZ, prior to becoming lead Pastor at SELC Christmas 2009.
Colossians 1:15-20, Philippians 4:4-8, and Ephesians 1:8-10,17-22, and 4:11-16 are among his most treasured bible passages, as well as various stories like the Woman at the Well in defining who Christ is and how we are to relate to Him and our world. His favorite image of the Church is the Body of Christ (1 Cor. 12). He believes that a pastor's key role is to guide and assist members and others find the joy in engaging in the process of gifts identification and application. Reaching out and serving "the least, last, lost and little" is a critical part of the Church's mission. Accompanying people through life crises and challenges is, to him, one of the true privileges and joys of being a pastor.
Some of Pastor Mark's favorite other activities include long-distance running, hiking, camping, spending time with family, reading fantasy and science fiction, like the Lord of the Rings, and watching movies.
